A minimal puzzle has no redundant clues: removing any single given number would make the puzzle ambiguous (more than one valid solution). This is the tightest possible constraint for a uniquely-solvable grid. Not all valid Sudoku puzzles are minimal — some carry extra clues that do not affect uniqueness. Use the “Minimal puzzles only” option in the generator to filter to this subset.
